Dear Member,

The Celtic Interconnector linking the Single Electricity Market (SEM) and France has a target market entry of Q4 2026.

The implementation of the Celtic Interconnector will physically reintegrate the SEM with the European Internal Energy Markets.

A revision of the current SEM Ex-Ante Markets is necessary to facilitate new cross-border trading opportunities between the SEM and Europe as a result of the EU re-integration, whilst maintaining cross-border trading opportunities between SEM and Great Britain.

SONI and EirGrid - as SEM Transmission System Operators and SEM Market Operator - have investigated options to facilitate market coupling between SEM and France and have developed a revised ex-ante market design. This is described in the information paper 'SEM Ex-Ante Market Design for EU Re-Integration' here

SONI and Eirgrid welcome feedback of market participants on the target market design and would request any feedback by 20th July 2023 via info@sem-o.com.

An online workshop will be organised for Monday 12th June 2023 from 14:00-16:00 to allow further discussion on the design. If wishing to attend please register for the workshop here

Kind regards,

SEMOpx Team
