EirGrid and SONI have launched a public consultation on a draft impact assessment regarding the 30-minute Intraday Cross-Zonal Gate Closure Time (IDCZGCT) for the SEM-France bidding zone border.
Under EU Regulation 2024/1747, TSOs must implement a 30-minute closure to enable closer-to-real-time trading. While acknowledging the benefits to market efficiency and renewable integration, the draft assessment identifies material operational, security of supply, and implementation risks if applied immediately at the Celtic Interconnector Go-Live.
Eirgrid and SONI are minded to seek a formal derogation from the Regulatory Authorities until 1 January 2029 to ensure a secure, controlled transition. We invite feedback from NEMOs, market participants, and stakeholders to inform our final submission to regulators. All responses should be sent through the consultation portal.
